Doctoral & Postdoctoral Fellowships with SBRI-India Global Infectious Diseases

U.S.-India Joint Research Training Program : Research Training in Global Infectious Diseases

Last date 30 April 2008.

The Global Infectious Diseases Training Grant on Research on Intracellular Pathogens is aimed at enhancing research and training on intracellular pathogens and the diseases they cause, with an emphasis on Malaria, leishmaniasis, and Tubercuolosis through advanced training opportunities for Ph.D. students and postdoctoral scientists, specialized workshops, and video lectures. This project is led by Dr. Kenneth Stuart (Seattle Biomedical Research Institute - SBRI), joined by co-directors Dr. Rentala Madhubala (Jawaharlal Nehru University - JNU) and Dr. Marilyn Parsons (SBRI).

IISc Young Science Fellowship Programme (YSFP)

Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, invites applications from II year B Sc/Integrated M.Sc. students for the award of Young Science Fellowship 2008

Eligibility Criteria

Students must have studied Mathematics as one of the subjects at plus two level, studying in the second year B.Sc./Integrated M.Sc. programme in Science subjects at any College/University in India and secured a minimum 60% marks in the first year.

Candidates Studying Medicine / Veterinary / Dental / Pharmacy / Engineering are not eligible

Features of YSFP

The selected candidates will be permitted to spend six weeks at the Institute during May-June 2008. During the Programme, there will be organized lectures by the faculty of IISc., problem solving sessions and project work.

Accommodation and Mess Facilities

Institute will not provide any accommodation to selected participants and participants have to make their own accommodation arrangements during the period of the Programme. However, they will be provided with Mess facility.

Financial Support

IISc will provide:

Traveling allowance – equivalent to II Class train fare, from college/residence to IISc and back.
Free board at IISc.
Fellowship Grant of Rs 5000/-
A Book grant of Rs. 1,500/- .

Relaxation criteria for SC/ST/PH students

There will be a suitable relaxation in the eligibility criteria for SC/ST/PH students.

Summer Fellowships in Science and Engineering at IISc for SC/ST students

Eligibility: Applicants must be studying in the final year M.Sc. in Biological Sciences, Physics, Chemistry/Mathematics/ B.E./ B.Tech.in Engineering or passed M.Sc./ B.E.,/ B.Tech Engineering during 2006-07.

Selection Criteria:

IISc.will evolve suitable criteria for selecting the candidates for the programme.

IISc. will provide:

Travelling allowance equivalent to II Class train fare from College/residence to IISc. and back.

Free board and lodging (on shared basis) at IISc.

A one-time fellowship of Rs.5000/- and a book grant of Rs.1500/-.

Features of the Programme:

The selected students will work with one of the IISc. Faculty members and learn various techniques used in research for a period of one month during May-June2008.

IISc Centenary Post-doctoral Fellowship

IISc Centenary Post-doctoral Fellowship is to encourage bright young scientists and engineers (preferably below 35 years) of all nationalities to work in the stimulating environment of the Institute.
Duration: The fellowship duration will be 2 years, renewable one more year.
Qualification: Candidates with PhD degree in Science and engineering or those who have recently submitted their doctoral thesis can apply.

Fellowship:
Rs. 25,000/month for PhD with 2 years experience.
Rs. 20,000/month for recent PhD
Rs.15,000/month for those yet to awarded PhD.

Accommodation: provided suitable accommodation and contingency grant of Rs.50,000/year for research.

How to Apply: Candidates must provide a 500 word research proposal indicating the research they would like to undertake and the facilities required. Candidates can, if they wish, identify a faculty member or research group at IISc with whom they would like to be associated during their post-doctoral fellowship. Those who would like to work in an interdisciplinary area can identify more than one faculty member.

ICMR in collaboration with PGIMER, Chandigarh will hold a National level examination for the award of Junior Research Fellowships (JRF), for Indian national candidates at Chandigarh, Chennai, Delhi, Kolkatta Mumbai and Hyderabad on Sunday, July 13th, 2008.

120 fellowships awarded in Life Sciences stream (like microbiology, physiology, molecular biology, genetics, human biology, biotechnology, biochemistry, bioinformatics, biophysics, immunology, zoology, environmental sciences, botany, veterinary sciences etc).

Application form duly completed must reach the Registrar; Academic Section PGIMER, Chandigarh- 160012 by registered/Speed post on or before 25.4.2008.

Candidate from remote areas /regions may submit their application forms duly completed latest by 2.5.2008.

Eligibility:Educational: M.Sc/M.A or equivalent degree with minimum 55% marks for General/OBC Candidates and 50% for the SC/ST & physically handicapped (PH) candidates in the subjects mentioned above.Candidates appearing in the final year examination (2007-2008) can also apply.
